We are an institution organized by the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, which brings together design departments of eight higher public art schools in Poland. We conduct extensive activities on the border of art and design. The historic building of the Academic Design Center, built in the heart of the former empire of the Łódź manufacturer Karol Scheibler, is the venue for many exhibitions of recognized artists. The multifunctional and modern spaces and facilities located there provide for the organization of various educational meetings for people of all ages. Our staff of workshop instructors and educators are valued teachers and artists. The aim of the ACD is also to cooperate with representatives of industry, including building a bridge between business and science through the implementation of joint research, development and design work. We want to combine scientific and teaching potential to contribute to increasing the competitiveness and attractiveness of studies in design fields at Polish art schools.
In 2022, the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts received funding from the state budget as part of the targeted subsidy of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage in the amount of PLN 366,713.00 to co-finance the task "Academic Design Center for the development of cultural heritage and artistic education". The investment task included the purchase of specialist equipment necessary to implement the cultural and educational offer of the Academic Design Center, including, among others, the organization of workshops and exhibitions, as well as improving the quality of services offered by increasing accessibility for people with disabilities.
